By now you have seen a page that rates
one of the attractions at Disneyland. You are probably
wondering what does that ratings box mean? Why Thrill
and Cool for ratings? Well I am here to explain
the entire ratings.
Why two different sets of ratings?
The reason for two
sets of ratings is I believe each ride posses different
qualities that make it great. Some rides like the
Matterhorn are designed to THRILL you by quickly
swishing you through the ice caves, while storybook
land is slow and it entertains you through miniature
towns built on the riverbed and stories told by
the operators, that is just COOL.
To split the two up Thrill is for
the rush of adrenaline the ride can give you, while
Cool is for the theming.
So what exactly is THRILL
Thrill is that rush
of excitement that when it is all over you just
can't wait to do it again. High thrill rides are
roller coaster type rides and Indiana Jones.
So What exactly is COOL
Cool is a little less
objective because it is based on imagineering. There
are a total of five possible Mickey's for this rating.
Each Mickey is for a certain aspect of theming.
Lets start at the beginning of the ride experience.
The Que. line Disneyland prides itself on not making
you do switch backs, and entertaining you in the
Que. line (well at least in the beginning, lines
grew out of their original areas on the earlier
rides) but Indiana Jones is a perfect example of
what a Que. line should be. The Que. experience
has a total possible of 2 of the five Mickey's.
This is where most rides loose there ratings. Because
Indiana Jones showed me what 2 hour Que. line could
be all the rides had there lines drop. Part of the
excitement of the new Tomorrowland is new Que. lines.
I hope Disney does to the new lines what it did
to the Indiana Jones. Matterhorn Mountain because
it has no Que. area and is just switch backs it
lost 2 Mickey's from its cool ratings. But it made
up for that inside the ride. The ice caves you swish
through on the coaster that snowman that roars at
you, this is cool, and it is worth the three Mickey's.
Pirates of the Caribbean also earned three Mickey's
for the inside of the ride. The older rides like
It's a small world have lost points due to the age
and lack of technology for the inside of the ride.
I personally hope Disneyland starts refurbishing
the insides of many of its rides with more modern
animatronics and sound systems. (Pirates will be
redone soon for its 25th anniversary)
I want a different rating for
a ride
Cool, if you feel I
have been unjust to any ride with its ratings hit
the e-mail button. I guarantee your views will be
POSTED ON THAT RIDE PAGE under the ratings. the
more input for the ratings the more informative
this sight can be. Also if I have been to generous
please e-mail me and I will post your e-mail on
that ride page... and perhaps change the rating
a little.
So you know the system head out
there and look at some more rides
